El Molino Theatre
- Barcelona, España.
Café concert centenary of Barcelona
The Molino Theater is the most emblematic café-theater of Paralelo Barcelonès. Its beginnings date back to the second decade of 1900, perhaps because of the 1929 International Exposition. Remodeled by the architect Joan Alemany who designed the facade that we have known until today. The first name it had was Petit Moulin Rouge, but since Franco’s dictatorship prohibited any language other than Spanish, it was changed to El Molino, also eliminating the “red” color associated with communists.
In the first decade of 2010, a group of seventeen companies invested fifteen million euros to expand, renovate and modernize the venue, introducing new technologies and electronic music.
The team of architects BOPBAA (Josep Bohigas, Francesc Pla and Iñaki Baquero) and the interior designer Fernando Salas are in charge of designing the new and spectacular luminous façade and of recovering and remodeling the entire theater. Our company was asked to dismantle the old sign, recover it once it had been cleaned and painted and install the new LED lighting in different colors. At the same time, the new “El Molino” interior stage sign was built. We are glad to have done this small job for this great project.
